![]() ![]() Mostly an issue of speed and resource management, yup. Out of that, I don't see a lot of potential issues. Also, Android equals Java at all times, and while it is ok-ish to build client applications that others don't depend onto, building a full streaming backwards-and-forwards system is doomed to be slow with it, as it'd be with any semi-compiled languages.Īnd, although I never used Android TV myself, it clearly will leave the main UI (and Material UI sure can be a greedy thing, noticed that with my phone) running in the background, as it will busy the network for updating purposes quite frequently. While using proprietary hardware allows you to make your own OS, and thus managing resources exactly like you want them to be managed. Using Android TV implies that you don't have full control over the system, because of Google's policies and general sandboxing. ![]() Unless the Forge's game streaming sucks, in which case I suppose I'll probably just keep the PC wired to my TV. For Today's market, it just makes sense to have those features. ![]() I've got a Chromecast for my bedroom TV and I absolutely love it. Another huge plus with the Forge is the built in Chromecast. So unless Valve has a surprise up their sleave, it looks like I may be going with the Razer Forge. I really don't see any reason why Steam OS's streaming capabilities couldn't be ported to Android. ![]() In an era of Smart TVs, streaming boxes and gaming consoles with tons of media apps, it would be nice to have that experience built into the Link as well. The reason why I love my HTPC setup is because I've got Plexbmc, Netflix for WMC, Hulu Desktop, Hyperspin and Steam big screen seemlessly controled from my tablet using the XBMC ui. I currently use my PC as an HTPC but as devs for online steaming services continue to screw Windows in favor of Android and iOS I really want to migrate to an Android TV box. The 1 reason why I will not be buying a Steam Link is because it won't be running Android TV. ![]()
